In last week’s cover art post the successes and failures of the two best covers and two worst covers were each unique from each other. This week I see the two winners and the two losers following a definite pattern.
I imagine that whoever designed these covers had to go to art school; had to learn the principles of graphic design; and had to study typography — I’m sure all the artists of these covers probably has some artistic pedigree. But the winners of this weeks cover art roundup look like they were created by someone who took her graphic art education seriously. Like someone sat down and plotted out the composition. The losers not only look frighteningly devoid of all graphic design, but they look like whoever created them drew the first thing that came to mind without realizing how awkward it would actually look on the page.
